Diabetes is characterized by raised blood sugar levels and it is a chronic process that affects every system in the body.

Diabetes is of different types, out of which NIDDM is a fast-growing metabolic syndrome.

NIDDM is a non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and the causes are lack of activity, lack of nutrition, lack of sleep, and using emotions left and right is the major cause of diabetes.

The major symptoms include increased thirst, increased frequency of micturition, increased appetite, cravings for sweets, dryness of mouth, non-healing wounds, rashes on the skin, recurrent urinary tract infection, and oral (dental & gingival) infections, weight loss or weight gain, muscle wasting and tremendous weakness.

Some patients visit the clinic with some complications like extensive fungal infection, cataract, chronic kidney failure, retinopathy, raised blood pressure, and neurasthenia.

Testing

Urine Glucose – Testing urine for glucose with dipsticks is a common screening procedure.

The presence of glucose in urine (glycosuria) warrants further assessment.

Blood Glucose – Normal blood sugar levels are

Fasting blood glucose – < 99 mg/dL is normal. Between 100 to 125 mg/dL is prediabetic and > 126 mg/dL is diabetes

Post-Prandial blood glucose – It is measurement of blood glucose 2 hours after meals. < 160 mg/dL is normal, between 160 to 200 mg/dL is prediabetic and > 200 mg/dL is diabetes

Do you know all this can be diagnosed in very early stages and complications can be totally prevented?

Do you know that you might be suffering from diabetes though your blood sugar fasting and post-prandial (PP) are regular?

In the initial phase of diabetes usually, blood sugar levels are normal and we find raised HbA1c and raised fasting insulin.
